Hallock earns MPSF men's water polo weekly honor

Stanford redshirt freshman Ben Hallock was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Water Polo Newcomer of the Week on Monday.

Hallock, who played on the U.S. Olympic team at Rio in 2016, recorded 11 goals in four games at the Bruno Classic over the weekend to lead Stanford to a sweep of No. 10 Harvard, No. 15 Brown, No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn and MIT played in both Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island.

Stanford totaled 85 goals in the four games, defeating Harvard, 21-5, MIT, 24-1, St. Francis Brooklyn, 21-5, and Brown, 19-0.

Hallock made his collegiate debut in Stanford's season opener against Harvard, scoring three goals. He tied with fellow Cardinal Reid Chase for the most goals in the match.

Hallock followed the Harvard match with four scores against MIT later in the day. He added two more goals each in wins over Brown and St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday.

Hallock posted the second-most goals on the Stanford roster over the four games. Junior Blake Parrish registered 13 goals in the Bruno Classic.

Hallock was the first Cardinal to be named MPSF Newcomer of the Week since Bennett Williams captured the award on Oct. 24, 2016.

Stanford returns to action Friday when the No. 3 Cardinal travels to Los Angeles to take on No. 2 USC at 5 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks).
