Stanford grad Kiley Neushul scored four of her five goals in the first quarter to help lead the United States senior women's national water polo team into the championship game of the World University Games with a 13-8 victory over Japan in the semifinal round Saturday.

Jamie Neushul added three goals for the Americans, who will play Hungary for the gold medal on Tuesday.

The Americans reached the title match for just the second time since women's water polo was introduced in 2009. They are seeking their first title, after losing to China in the 2011 championship game.

Hungary reached the gold medal match for the third time. The Hungarians are looking for their first title as well.

The U.S. beat Hungary to finish fifth in the 2015 tournament.

Japan took a 1-0 lead but it was all Team USA the rest of the way. Kiley Neushul responded with four consecutive goals and the Americans never looked back.

The Japanese manged to draw within 5-3 in the second quarter but the U.S. scored the next four goals, two from Jamie Neushul, who also had three steals, to pull away.

Stanford senior Jordan Raney added two goals for the U.S.

The United States went 3-on-5 on power plays and converted its lone penalty shot. Japan was 5-of-6 on power plays.
