Free concert with live Motown sounds

Will Russ Jr. and the "Force of Will" band will play "groovy 1970s Motown" at a concert on the performance lawn at Portola Valley Town Center on Thursday, Aug. 17, for the third and last free summer concert this year.

The two-hour event starts at 6 p.m., just after the weekly farmers' market in the nearby parking lot of the Historic Schoolhouse at 765 Portola Road.

Two food trucks are scheduled to be there, according to a town notice: "The Steamin' Burger" of San Francisco, and San Jose-based "Sam's Chowder Mobile."

The Woodside Priory School is co-sponsoring the concert in recognition of the school's 60 years in Portola Valley. Commemorative wine glasses are $5 and include a free split of red or white wine, compliments of the Priory.

Picnics, including with alcoholic beverages, are OK, as are chairs, children and well-behaved dogs, say organizers. Blankets and warm clothing are recommended.

The Town Center includes a playground, restrooms and ample parking.
