Pickup truck runs red light, T-bones sedan in Palo Alto

Both drivers left with minor injuries

A pickup truck T-boned a sedan on a slick Palo Alto road Tuesday afternoon, leaving both drivers with minor injuries.

The truck driver was going east on Oregon Expressway where the driver ran a red light and struck the side of a sedan traveling on southbound Bryant Street just before 1 p.m., police Sgt. David Lee said.

The truck also took out a pedestrian crossing sign before landing on its side, he said.

The truck driver was left with a leg laceration and the sedan driver complained of pain. Both of them were treated at the scene and didn't need further treatment at a hospital, Lee said.

There were no passengers in both vehicles, which were left with major damage, according to Lee.

Police didn't make any arrests or issue citations as a result of the collision, Lee said.

Eastbound Oregon Expressway was closed at Bryant Street until the scene was cleared about an hour later, he said.

Lee added that the rain created slick road conditions, which could've been a factor in the collision.

Why the heck not?! If the info in the article is correct and the pickup driver did run a red light why on earth would the police not give the driver a citation?

If no one is killed, my experience with the Palo Alto Police is that at best they will write a report assigning blame and then let the insurance companies and civil lawyers figure it out.
