Spend New Year's Day in the mountains

Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District offers Jan. 1 excursion

Fancy spending the first hours of 2016 taking in fresh air and panoramic views of the Bay Area? Join docents from the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District for a New Year's Eve group hike at Monte Bello Preserve, located in the hills above Palo Alto. The vigorous 10-mile hike will include a climb to the top of Black Mountain.

Where: Monte Bello Preserve

When: Friday, Jan. 1, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free
