Six local teams will compete in girls' CCS golf championships

A lot of familiar faces and rivals from the 2015 season will be on hand for the Central Coast Section Girls Golf Championships on Tuesday at Rancho Canada (East Course) in Carmel Valley.

Six local teams will join defending champion St. Francis in the field for the section finals, which will qualify to teams and individuals to the NorCal Championships the following week.

Gunn, Castilleja and plus Menlo-Atherton earned automatic berths into the section tourney winning winning or tying for regular-season league titles. That group ballooned by three when Palo Alto, Menlo School and Sacred Heart Prep were added to the field via at-large berths.

Thus, three members from the West Bay Athletic League and two from the SCVAL will battle once again -- this time with even more at stake.

St. Francis is favored once again after beating runner-up Gunn by 24 strokes last season. Palo Alto was third, Castilleja fourth, Menlo School fifth and Menlo-Atherton seventh.

While the Lancers should advance to NorCals easily, the other team berths are up for grabs.
