In defense of the middleman

Journalist Marina Krakovsky releases new book

Here in the Silicon Valley, we're all familiar with the Steve Jobs model of genius. But what about the unsung heroes of the tech and business worlds? According to journalist and author Marina Krakovsky, the middlemen are crucial cogs in making the economic world go 'round.

Who, exactly, are the middlemen?

The're the literary agents, the editors, the sales reps, the bloggers and the event planners among us -- all those who make it their business to promote and realize the ideas of others.

Krakovsky's new book is "The Middleman Economy: How Brokers, Agents, Dealers, and Everyday Matchmakers Create Value and Profit."

Tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m., Krakovsky will appear at Kepler's Books, 1313 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, to discuss the book.

"The Middleman Economy" is available at Kepler's as well as on amazon.com.
