Teen injured in East Palo Alto shooting

A teenager was injured in a drive-by shooting in East Palo Alto on Tuesday evening, according to police.

At about 6:15 p.m., East Palo Alto police were notified of a ShotSpotter activation in the 1000 block of Myrtle Street, the same block of a shooting that left three people injured last month.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a 17-year-old boy sitting on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to his right foot.

Police said the victim, identified as a resident of East Palo Alto, was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

According to a preliminary police investigation, the victim was standing outside his home when a dark-colored Honda rolled up. A person inside the vehicle shot the victim in his right foot, according to police.

The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle prior to police arrival at the scene and have not yet been located, according to officers.

Anyone with information about this incident or anyone who witnessed the shooting is encouraged to contact police at 650-798-5958 or may send an anonymous text or voicemail to 650-409-6792. Anonymous emails can be sent to epa@tipnow.org.

This is happening all too often. Too many guns that are just too readily available to fools and criminals.

Best wishes to this young man for a quick and complete recovery.

We NEED thoughtful gun legislation that not driven by the NRA and/or gun manufacturers and marketers.

There are only a few points of vehicular entry and exit. Therefore, an intelligent response from authorities would be to simply ...

Wouldn't it be possible to setup temporary surveillance cameras at hotspots?
