Alexander, Hawkins air it out for Menlo in road football win


Brandon Bell rushed a career-high 26 times for 137 yards and a touchdown and Wade Hawkins completed 21 of 29 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns as the Menlo College football team earned a 30-22 victory over host Lindenwood-Belleville on Saturday afternoon in Illinois.

The Oaks (3-3) take the next two weeks off before hitting the road again, traveling to Delaware to take on Wesley College Oct. 26.

The Oaks scored on the opening drive of the contest, as Hawkins connected with Daniel Jones on a 33-yard scoring play, the culmination of a five-play, 75-yard drive.

Menlo's Jaden Rosselli intercepted a Lynx pass on the ensuing drive. That led to Bell's one-yartd run that gave the Oaks a 14-0 edge.

Michele Canali blocked Twan Brooks' punt, which bounced out of the end zone for a safety was blocked and scooted out the back of the end zone for a safety to extend Menlo's lead to 16-7.

The Oaks took a 23-14 lead into intermission after Michael Alexander caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Hawkins.

Hawkins and Robert Gehre connected on a 23 yard touchdown pass to cap a 10-play, 82 yard scoring drive.

James Yoder led all Menlo tacklers with eight tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss. Cameron Grad added seven tackles, half a sack and a tackle for loss.

Alexander had a break out day, pulling in 10 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.
