Menlo volleyball records big hitting night in Cal Pac victory

Senior outside hitter Nicole Yap recorded 20 kills on 48 swings and added 15 digs for the Menlo College women's volleyball team, which downed host Simpson, 25-14, 25-8, 26-28, 25-21, on Friday night in a Cal Pac Conference match.

Junior outside hitter Courtney Calicdan added 11 kills and 19 digs, while sophomore setter Kelly Sung had 41 assists and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Emma Oehler also had 19 digs for the Lady Oaks (2-0, 8-5), who play at William Jessup on Saturday night.

Sophomore middle blocker Jamie Nurenberg had an errorless hitting game, getting nine kills on 23 swings and recording a hitting percentage of .391 for Menlo.

Calicdan remains the team leader in kills with 182, while Yap improved to 150.

Women's soccer

Jocelyn Aguilar scored three times, Natalie Ingram and Erica Hunting each scored twice and Menlo downed host Mills College, 10-0, in a nonconference match on Friday.

The Lady Oaks (5-1) travels to UC Merced for a Cal Pac Conference match on Wednesday.

Janelle Gaddy, Ashleigh Nelin and Victoria Piazza each added a goal for Menlo, which had a 34-2 advantage in shots, including a 22-0 edge in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Whitney Galindo was credited with her third consecutive shutout, and her fourth overall.
