BAKE SALE FOR NY . . . Students at Escondido Elementary School are organizing a bake sale to raise money for those hurt or injured in the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. Today, fourth- and fifth-grade students will be selling baked goods. Parents and other residents are encouraged to drop by. Stands will be set up before school at 8 a.m., during morning recess at 10 a.m., and after school at 2:50 p.m. Escondido is located at 890 Escondido Road in Palo Alto.

SIMITIAN REFLECTS . . . The Palo Alto League of Women Voters will have a program Tuesday with Assemblyman Joe Simitian. He will talk on "Reflections of a Freshman Legislator," at the First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto. The event will be in the Fellowship Hall at 1140 Cowper Street. A "Meet the League" reception introducing League studies and voter services begins at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited and there is no charge. For more information call (650) 327-9148.
