Virtual Birthday Celebrations
Uploaded: Jun 22, 2020When our kids have birthdays, I love spending a lot of time chatting with them about their theme, activities, decorations, friends to invite, presents, cake, etc. I think it is a wonderful way for us to talk about their likes and dislikes, talk about their friendships, and just spend time together.
Birthday parties are wonderful celebrations, but each has its challenges. Sometimes friends get sick at the last minute. Sometimes best friends have a conflict with another activity. And sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate. But this year’s birthday celebrations may be the most unique ones yet.
Our son has a summer birthday. Instead of cancelling or postponing his party, we decided to do it virtually. He choose a couple of friends to invite and each friend received a “surprise birthday bag” with a Lego set, candy and decorations. We bought 2 of each a Lego set so our son could build one at our home while his friend built the same set at theirs.
I was a little nervous about how the kids would enjoy a virtual birthday party, but it was a lot of fun. I’m not sure what the next birthday celebrations will bring, but I’m excited to see what creative options our kids, friends and family members come up with.
