Boomer U. Expo Drew an Age-Diverse CrowdUploaded: Apr 6, 2016
Boomer U. Expo last Sat. at Mitchell Park Community Center was well attended. Manning the Webster House booth all day I noticed that the mean age of the attendees seemed to be around 75. The oldest Boomers (born in 1946) are 70 years old right now. So I thought that it was very interesting that an event billed as "Boomer University" wouldn't end up attracting just boomers. I think that’s a testament to the fact that many seniors refuse to be categorized based solely on their age. And we are certainly learning that 85 is the new 75, or even younger.
I would have liked to have seen a few more health and fitness workshops, but all in all, most of the offerings delivered some valuable information. If they have the same event next year it would be good to see a healthy mixture of workshops aimed at both seniors and boomers, either blended workshops or age specific. And even then, I’m sure you’ll continue to get some good crossover between the two groups.
