America the Beautiful

Uploaded: Sep 30, 2019

Every so often I sit down to write, but instead start thinking about the happenings that surround, and the feeling that waxing poetic about food just seems so… well… shallow.

So today the sentiment is different; a Food Party! salute let’s call it, to a tune I find myself singing these days, over and over, more like a prayer than a song.

America the Beautiful

Oh beautiful, for spacious skies

For amber waves of grain

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain.

America, America

God shed grace on thee

And crowned thy good with brother (and sister) hood

From sea

to shining sea.

- lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates, music by Samuel A. Ward

America is beautiful, but then, beauty is only skin derp. Our current administration is not very “Beautiful" at all. In fact, they're downright ugly. What with all their contempt for California, and hate for San Francisco you would think we were the ugliest state in the nation. Ahh, but we all know better, right? We shine! America is beautiful, but it's also ugly and herein lies the truth. We cannot truly recognize beauty without tolerating our imperfection and faults, the yin and the yang, good and bad. So here's to America the beautiful, and America the ugly, long may she shine!

Let's make America great again. We can start once the short fingered orange baboon is removed, then Pence clears out his revolting followers, and Team Blue sweeps out the Putin detritus.

That was a beautiful message America deserves IMO. America would be great again with more poets like you! We need more Longfellows, and as a Canadian in Kitchener Ontario - I can see that!

America The Beautiful indeed. Thankfully many of us still appreciate it without nasty comments like previous posters.

the author of America the beautiful apparently never visited Milpitas and/or the Great Mall & Elmwood County Jail.
