New cafe brings boba, mochi waffles to Menlo Park

Uploaded: Aug 30, 2019
Boba shop Green Bubble Cafe is now open at 604 Santa Cruz Ave. in downtown Menlo Park.

Green Bubble was started by three San Francisco State University graduates who "wanted to bring the real taste of boba drinks from our hometown of Taiwan," the website reads. They opened their first cafe in Oakland in 2010 and later expanded to Walnut Creek and Union City.

The Menlo Park location serves milk tea and smoothies as well as Hong Kong egg waffles with ice cream; mochi waffles that can be topped with condensed milk, ice cream, whipped cream or fruit; and rice bowls with teriyaki chicken, chicken curry, unagi and beef.

Soft opening hours are Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Green Bubble joins the abundance of boba cafes on the Peninsula. In Menlo Park, Cup O' Tea, which replaced Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt on Willow Road, also serves milk tea and boba cafe Tea It Up is supposed to open at 933 El Camino Real this year.

The "egg puff" waffle sundaes are fun to share. The individual egg puffs can be broken off, and there are also two Pocky sticks on top. Lots of seating and good Wi-Fi. Nice to see another casual hangout in town!
