University of California Augmented Review Policy

Uploaded: Aug 20, 2017
Taken from the UC Counselors and Advisors Bulletin:

UC Regents adopted an Augmented Review Policy, effective for the 2018-19 admission cycle which allows campuses to request supplemental information from no more than 15 percent of applicants. The new systemwide policy codified an existing practice of augmented/supplemental review that a few campuses have used for many years (e.g., Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles, and San Diego).
Most applications (98%) to UC are complete as submitted without the need for additional information.

There are three types of supplemental information that may be requested of an applicant; seventh-semester grades, response to a questionnaire and/or letters of recommendation.
There is no requirement nor expectation that all campuses will use Augmented Review.

Thank you so much for your info.

Here in Palo Alto especially, many families come and go from all over the United States and foreign countries, sometimes for short time. In my old country, the preparation for college is pretty much the same thing over years and it's even commercialized. However, people don't talk about it openly all the time around here. We, busy clueless parents, often can't clutch the timings in the college application process.

Once I heard in the guidance office, a parent in a nice suit with foreign accents, around the time when seniors received their results, "How come no one told me!"

So your occasional articles keep reminding parents like me that college preparation is a regular ongoing part of high school students' life. People who live in Palo Alto read "Palo Alto Online" anyway. Not all parents are tiger moms here. Please keep doing.
