Dropping naps

Uploaded: Sep 19, 2016
When a toddler drops a nap, it can take awhile for everyone to adjust.

When our son started dropping his nap, I was pregnant with his sister and unsure how I would manage a newborn and a toddler who doesn't nap. While I tried holding onto his nap, he was clearly happier when we just let it go.

Our daughter recently started dropping her nap and I'm letting her nap when she needs to and skip it when she doesn't. Luckily, she is slowly dropping her nap and giving all of us, especially me, a chance to adjust.

The biggest adjustment for me has been switching my focus from spending long periods of quality one-on-one time with each child during the week to spending longer stretches of time with all three of us together or letting our kids spend more quality time together as siblings while I cook, clean, check emails, etc.

A toddler dropping her nap is definitely another reminder for me to take advantage of opportunities while I can. I never know when our toddler will take her last nap while I read, play and chat with her older brother - a part of my day I will truly miss.
