Opening alert: Aroy Thai Bistro in Palo Alto

Uploaded: Apr 28, 2016
Aroy Thai Bistro, a new downtown Palo Alto restaurant from the owner of neighboring Thaiphoon, is now open at 320 University Ave.

Aroy's menu is typical of a traditional Thai restaurant, with noodle dishes, soups, curries and more. The executive chef, according to OpenTable, is Wanna Vongampai, longtime chef at Thaiphoon.

Tom Vongampai, who owns Thaiphoon at 543 Emerson St. and a location in San Jose, took over the downtown space after Madame Tam Asian Bistro closed in June 2015.

Thaiphoon first opened in Palo Alto in 2005. It has been named "best Thai restaurant" in the Palo Alto Weekly's Best Of contest several times over the years, including in 2015.

Aroy Thai Bistro is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5-9:30 p.m., on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and 5-10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., according to Yelp.
