Palo Alto's Bare Bowls expands to Burlingame

Uploaded: Jul 20, 2015
In more local acai-related news, Palo Alto-born acai-bowl shop Bare Bowls is opening a second location in Burlingame later this summer.

Owners Sarah Lipps and Bridget Carson made the announcement on social media last week. The two recent college graduates opened their first business together at 530 Emerson St. in November. (Lipps is a Menlo Park native, and met Carson during college in Southern California.)

The two said via email last week that before even opening their first shop, they knew they wanted to have more than one.

"The first few months we learned what is needed to make our business successful," the two owners said. "We decided to expand once we figured out to run the store at an optimal level -- ensuring each bowl is high quality and handcrafted."

Bare Bowls serves acai bowls, often blended with homemade nut butters and nut milks, as well as smoothies and chia puddings. They also sell local goods like granola, health bars and more.

The new outpost at 240 Park Road in Burlingame (formerly the home of a frozen yogurt shop) is smaller than the Palo Alto location, so it will be more of a to-go shop, Lipps and Carson said, though there will be benches and a bar to sit at. They're eyeing an August opening date.
Democracy.
