Menlo College wrestler pins down an individual title in big tournament

Menlo College heavyweight Tyrell Blauch worked his way through wrestlers from UC Davis, Stanford and Fresno Pacific before beating Fresno State's Cody Parker, 6-2, in the championship match of the Fullerton Open on Saturday.
Blauch won four matches, all by decision, to earn the heavyweight title and highlight a good showing from Menlo wrestlers.
Kyle Bickford reached the finals at 157 pounds before falling to Cal State Fullerton's Shawn Reilly by pin at 2:26.
Bickford beat teammate Robert Davis in the semifinals, 5-1. Davis won his final match, 9-2, to earn fifth place.
Addison Chipoldetti lost his semifinal match to eventual champion Ryan Haley of Cal Poly in 184 pounds but came back to earn fifth.
Pablo Sanchez, Joe Garcia, Juan Roman, Steven Towne and Jesse Vasquez won matches as the Oaks (2-0) beat Embry-Riddle, 19-16, in a nonconference match on Friday in Fullerton.
Women's basketball
Kepua Lee reached double figures in scoring and Apri Babakhanyan reached double figures in rebounding in each of Menlo's first two games at the Southern California Division III Tip Off at Pomona Pitzer over the weekend.
Lee scored 16 points in a 75-56 win over LaVerne on Friday and 12 in the Oaks' 90-45 win over Pomona on Saturday. Babakhanyan recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards against LaVerne. She also had 10 rebounds in the win over Pomona.
Shannon Riley scored a team-high 17 points and Nicole Johnson added 11 against LaVerne. Ashlynn Dolcini scored 11 against Pomona.
Men's basketball
Menlo split its first two games of the season, beating LaVerne, 80-77, on Saturday as James Gilkey scored 33 points on 13-of-18 shooting. Ismael Torres added 11 points.
The Oaks (1-1) dropped a 61-56 decision to host Claremont on Sunday.
