"Intimate Apparel" is TheatreWorks' latest offering: a play about an African-American seamstress creating renowned underthings for the upper class in turn-of-the-century New York. "Lieder in Color" shows the creations of two painters, Midori McCabe and Gloria Takla, who have made artwork as a tribute to the music of Franz Schubert. The exhibit is at Gallery House at 320 California Ave. in Palo Alto through Sept. 17, with open hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. "Food, Frogs and Fido" displays works on paper by artist David Gilhooly, including lithographs, etchings and collage. The exhibit is at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University through Nov. 27, and ceramic sculptures by Gilhooly will be displayed beginning in October. "Robots! Merging Man and Machine" spotlights those quirky mechanical beings at the Museum of American Heritage at 351 Homer Ave. in Palo Alto through Sept. 25. "The Rise and Fall of the Slide Rule," an exhibit tracing the history of the slide rule from its beginnings in the 17th century, is open at the Peterson Gallery in the Green Library at Stanford University through Oct. 9. "The Ives of March (in August?)" opens in an outdoor location at 2170 Bear Gulch Road West in Woodside tonight, kicking off a run of one-act comedies from playwright David Ives. This is the fourth annual production of Theatre in the Woods, and the works will be presented as part of a "leisurely" hike. San Jose Taiko puts on an evening of traditional Japanese drumming from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Hidden Villa at 26870 Moody Road in Los Altos Hills. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and bring a blanket or chairs to sit on. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $7.50 for children.
