Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour comes to Los Altos

Original post made by Marcus Libkind on Feb 20, 2007

This years showing of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Los Altos is a benefit for nonprofit Snowlands Network ( whose advocacy work promotes opportunities for quality, muscle-pwered winter recreation and protects winter wildlands.

The main feature at the Los Altos showing will be Asiemut, which won the People's Choice Award and Special Jury Mention. In 2005, Olivier Higgins and Mélanie Carrier went on their first cycling expedition — 8000 kilometres across Asia. In six months they peddled from Mongolia to Calcutta, India, traveling through Xinjiang, the Taklimakan Desert, the high Tibetan plateau, and the jungle of Nepal. Why? Not only to discover the world, but also to discover themselves.

Other films that night will include Anomaly that showcases the freakish and abnormal abilities of today's top ski and snowboard athletes as they push the boundary of what is humanly possible, Mountains without Barriers in which two blind men and a man with no legs tackle a 1000-foot rock tower in Italy, and Unchained: New World Disorder VI that showcases a group of young, daring riders who push the limits of freeride mountain biking beyond imagination. Visit for a full list of the films to be shown.
