They should put exploding dye packs inside cell phones so they could be triggered remotely. Or skunk scent.

Stand your ground is not such a bad idea sometimes.
I think we are going to see a lot more of this kind of stuff in the near future.
This is very disheartening to know people would do this.
Pretty soon they will be busting into our houses.

I hope the cellphone was one of those that can be tracked through the internet, and maybe take a picture of the thugs. There are apps for that now.

Why in heaven's name would we be "seeing a lot more of this?" Crime has been going down all over the country and even the world for years. In the past 5 years there have been a couple of bursts of robbery and burglary and the Bad Guys were caught without gunplay. There were 43 robberies in 2008 and 23 in 2012. We are in one of the safest places to live in the entire world. The idea that we need to arm ourselves against the people that are about to break into our homes is absurd.

What Donald said. The fact that with the Web we can now be aware of everything happening everywhere doesn't negate the facts, which are that crime's way down over the medium term.

A dismissive take on violent crime, or justifying a sense of security based on statistics and probability is always a convenient position until you or someone you care about becomes a victim. Like someone said, "A liberal is just a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet."

Soooo according to Phil...factual evidence really doesn't matter. You should never feel safe as long as there's a minor possibility that you will be the victim of a random event, especially in such a well off place as Silicon Valley. Whether or not you or someone you know gets mugged doesn't change the fact that, overall, things are pretty safe. Seriously, you really shouldn't take everything so personally, and accept that bad things might happen no matter what (and it's very unlikely that they will happen to you). This is coming from someone who has been the victim of crime...
