While picking up pastries this morning at Paris Baguette I couldn't help but notice loud, piped-in (piped-out?) music filling the Downtown air. It was coming from speakers outside the Cheesecake Factory - I suppose to entertain outside diners (non-existent at 11 am).
I truly love music of all types - but this just came across as loud, odd noise. I know and own that I've become sensitive (irritated) by the screens and audio ads everywhere and layers of music playing in dept. stores - but this caught me by surprise. It seemed so out of place to hear canned music blaring downtown. So I'm wondering (1) how other people feel about it, and (2) whether there are ordinances that address or guide businesses playing amplified sound outside their establishments.
Funny, I often choose to dine outdoors because it is often quieter than some of our restaurants. Borrowing from Dylan... my old road may be rapidly agin' and the times may be a-changin'.

Agreed. I really dislike the public music piped out into our streets everywhere! Some peace, please! Honestly, I usually just leave wherever the piped music is rather than stay and subject myself to it, whether indoors or out. This means I don't buy what I might have otherwise, and leave grumpy.

I like pastries from the Sunday California Ave farmer's market far better than Paris Baguette (which I've not enjoyed both times I've tried it). Just sayin'

Paris Baguette has a misleading name. The pastries are not very good by any standard. The food is mostly Asian anyway, and should not use a European name to mislead. This is false advertising.

Yes its horrible.
If you like music then you will hate muzak. Music obliterates all other things for me. So bad music is like torture. It renders me unable to function or think. And they should not do that with the downtown real estate. I will never go in that place or now even near it!
