Will AYSO, Fall Ball, etc. start in August to align with school calendar?

Original post made by Parent, Palo Verde, on Jan 16, 2013

Does anyone know if the non school sports will start their fall programs before Labor Day now that school starts early?

Non school sports have "seasons" that are influenced by their national organizations. I doubt the school calendar has any influence on the start date. For example, school start dates vary all over the US but the Little League world series is always held in August and the dates for all of the regional and local tournaments are set by the national organization. Often it happens teams playing in the Little League World series are missing school to play! I don't think sport dates should have any influence on our calendar (and vice versa).

Back when I was a kid, the LLWS was over before mid-July.

Back when I was a kid going to school in Palo Alto we didn't start school until after Labor Day so not only did we get a summer, the school year coincided with the non school (and school, for that matter) sports more closely. Those were the good old days...

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund

For the last 23 years, the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund has given away more than $4 million to local nonprofits serving children and families. When you make a donation, every dollar is automatically doubled, and 100% of the funds go directly to local programs. It’s a great way to ensure your charitable donations are working at home.
