Hezbollah abuse and deception
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by SkepticAl, a resident of the Ventura neighborhood, on Dec 6, 2006 at 1:08 am

Today's NY Times reports that an Israeli report is coming out with declassified photos and videos demonstrating how Hezbollah drew fire upon civilians, residences, and convoys. I'm surprised Jag Singh, with his great interest in the region, hasn't mentioned this yet. Must have missed the news.

According to the Times, evidence shows Hezbollah shielding rocket launchers in and near residences. Captured Hezbollah fighters also describe how they hid themselves and their weapons, and carried white flags while engaged in the fight. A Lebanese official concedes that Hezbollah has interwoven itself with southern Lebanese civilian infrastructure, preparing for exactly what happened, with the blessings and consent of the locals.

Why are we surprised?

- when a thousand rockets fall on Israeli civilian population from Gaza since Israeli evacuation, that's not news.

- when Hezbollah explicitly targets civilian population centers with few thousands rockets day after day during the recent war in Lebanon, that's not news.

- when suicide bombers explode in midst of Israeli civilians, that's barely news (unless US citizens happen to die)

- when Hezbollah is shown to use civilians as shield, that's not news.

- But when Israel causes civilian collateral casualties, that definitely is news.

Jag has it right. Dog bites man is no news. Man bites dog is.

Yes, you are right Wolf. I notice Jag still hasn't commented on how dismayed he is that one of the original Israeli soldiers, abducted in June, ( along with the murder of how many others?? 8?? Everyone likes to forget to mention them. I guess you don't count after you are dead if you are a Jew) is STILL not released, in spite of the "cease-fire"..at least the cease-fire by Israel. Can you imagine if the entire beginning of the Lebanese war had exactly the opposite players from the beginning ( Israel crosses the border, kills and abducts, then proceeds to treat the Lebanese as the Israelis were treated..and now still has the abducted soldier), how differently the rest of the world would have reacted?

Thanks SkepitAl, Wolf and Draw the Line for your posts. They are right on the mark.

I am not surprised that Jag has not responded to this post--it casts israel in a favorable light--which is against everything jag apparently stands for.

It is amazing what jag gets away with on this forum--his postings and letters to the Weekly are constantly filled with anti-Israeli, anti-jewish and in many cases anti-semetic rantings. But I guess when you are one of the PA Weekly's most prolific letter writers/posters and when, in my opinion, you vocalize the beliefs held by Bill Johnson, Don kazak (remember his praise filled column on noted anti-zionist Joel Beinin) and others on the Weekly staff you can write whatever you want.
