Utilities department warns against scam

The City of Palo Alto Utilities Department is warning residents and businesses about a scam in which the thieves phone residents, posing as utilities department staff.

I've been getting phone messages from a Washington DC phone number claiming that they represent Palo Alto Utilities and have questions about my gas line. Sounds pretty fishy, so I never call them back. Is this a scam?

I got a similar call, but it made no sense coming from DC, so I never returned the call.

Scammers have not left the planet yet. They are finding new ways they have gone from the poisionous snakes to utility bills. What is next the Christmas Fund?
