Palo Alto finds 'smart city' partners abroad

When Palo Alto launched its Sister City program half a century ago, no one talked about "entrepreneurship," "sustainability" or "deliverables." The city's new partnership with Heidelberg, Germany, shows just how much the times have changed.

Who is paying for the European and Asian trips by city officials?

If Smart Cities is as great as "Smart Growth," hold on to your wallet. Is this also a developers dream?

At least Heidelberg is a much nicer, kinder, cleaner city than a lot of other places that could have been chosen.

SOunds like a junket for city employees.

this benefits us not in the least. We can liase with anyone on earth for anything important.

I think NO money should be spent on this.

Does Palo Alto just get too much money that they don't know what to do with it? In all of this babble, I don't hear anything specific or necessary to the community of Palo alto. This makes me see why so many conservatives want to cut cut cut taxes.

Isn't International initiatives the scope of our Federal government? Concentrate on more efficiency within your departments. Improve the police, utilities, and infrastructure and stop spending money and TIME on this nonsense.
