Neighborhood Watch Group Crimes & Incidents, posted by Rational, a resident of the Downtown North neighborhood, on Mar 15, 2013 at 11:19 pm
All, crime is getting out if hand in downtown- its not fun when each time my wife walks out at night, I have to remind her to keep her phone in her hand and look around constantly.
Can we start a neighborhood watch? Perhaps a we can get enough willing participants to take a 1 hour walk at least once a week in a designated say 2x4 block area. I would like to see if there are enough downtown residents so a shared Google Spreadsheet/ Map could be started to divide the work. We can share a Google Group as well.

You shouldn't "have to" tell your wife these things because she should already know and be doing these things for years... We should all be watching out for ourselves and others all the time.
But forming some sort of group to help with volunteer paroling sounds like a good idea to me!

Whenever prople talk about neighborhood watch patrols, the names George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin instantly come to mind. There are undoubtedly many good and competent programs of that type, but the Florida case casts a long shadow. Will Palo Alto's neighborhood watch patrols stop young people with dark skin wearing hoodies, just because they're young people with dark skin wearing hoodies?
