So long, Cafe Sofia! You will be missed!
Restaurants, posted by Ronnie, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Feb 10, 2013 at 10:12 am

I'm sorry to report that Café Sofia is going out of business! Apparently the rent is getting too high. Also worth noting is that Papa Murphy's is already gone too!

I enjoyed having Cafe Sofia in our neighborhood for many years. I got coffee at their old location on one of the first days I moved to Palo Alto. They will be missed, and I wish them the best of luck.

It was high rent that put Butterfly Life women's gym out of business in Midtown too. There is another gym there now but it always appears closed when I pass.

I hope that Midtown does not lose its vibrancy and its usefulness to us nearby residents.

This is a shame...I loved the food and the staff. The rents charged for Midtown's dumpy properties are obscene. How can the landlords make money if no one can pay the rent? They cannot cheat renters forever!

So bummed :( Cafe Sofia was one of the few decent eateries in walking distance for us in Midtown. So sad to see it go.

Has anyone confirmed this with Sophia or Dwayne? There's nothing in the local press about this and you know that the Murky Sleaze would be all over this story.

If true, my heart is heavy with sorrow. Sophia and her family run a wonderful restaurant with great food. I used to walk to the Charleston Center location until Piazza's got the landlord to force her out because she was serving sandwiches and Piazza's considered it a violation of her lease for "competing" with Piazza's. As if! And the different coffee drinks were awesome! where will I buy my fresh beans now?

I am so saddened to hear this news, having sought out and patronized Cafe Sophia as much as possible since the outrage of her having been forced out of her original location where she had much more walk-by traffic, better parking, more space. I LOVED her food as well as her cappuccinos, all prepared and served with pride. If there's ever a chance she'll reopen in another location, I'll travel there to continue to patronize her place and to bask in the warmth of her wonderful smile.

I've introduced many others to Cafe Sophia and I think all of them shared my reaction.

Sophia, if you see this, know that I'm sending you my best wishes and appreciation for all the wonderful meals and all the coffee I've enjoyed at your place.
