Condoleezza Rice to join formerly men-only Augusta Around Town, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Aug 20, 2012 at 7:29 pm
Breaking down social barriers is nothing new to Condoleeza Rice. The first African-American woman appointed U.S. Secretary of State broke another one Monday, being invited to join Augusta National Golf Club as one of its first two female members.

Is Condi turning all lefty on us now that she has left Washington? What happened to defending good old social conservative values, like restricting country clubs to old white men? The Republicans aren't called the GOB (good old boy) party for nothing.

The Weekly covers Palo Alto and Stanford, among other local cities. That's why Condoleezzo Rice is a local story, just like all the Stanford Olympic athletes. Plus, this is a fairly historic event since all-male Augusta not allowing females has been a national story for years. Now, it's a local story, as well.

> Condi lives in Palo Alto ..
So what? So does George Schultz, and thousands of other people. Ms. Rice is no longer an "accountable" public figure, so probably should be afforded her privacy .. rather than some sort of target for the loony left.

> Condi is all over the public spectrum, from being promoted to
> speak at the RNC Web Link to being a fashion model for hawking
> NFL apparel Web Link Want a list of her recent paid speeches?
And that makes her an accountable public figure? She is not employed
by any government agency as employee is she? She is not making any decisions that affect people's lives, or the nation's security. She is, at the moment, a private person.
> NFL apparel
And what makes that in anyway accountable. It's very unlikely that anyone would carry a story about her flogging products like these.
> And you use the oxymoron "loony left" a couple of days
> after the "legitimate rape" and "women can't get pregnant
> from rape" comments???
It was a slip of the tongue, no doubt. Does this fellow have a history of such gaffes? Or was it a one time occurrence? If no history, all of the hysteria of this single comment is a clear example of what the "loony left" is capable of.
By the way, it's kind of interesting that the left-wing media is all over this story, but hasn't shown much interest in this one--

Wondering: Condi is public figure. Any sane person understands that is if she is portraying her jersey clad body in an ad, giving speeches and appearing at the RNC -- she's a public figure and subject to the ridicule she so obviously earned with Bush/Cheney. Sorry you don't agree.
That said, glad we both agreed she is the worst National Security Advisor in history.
Much of the Left is NOT calling on Todd Akin to quit -- he highlights just how far to the extreme that most of the Republican party sits:
Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney have the same views as Todd Akin.
From the thread by Farm Girl, since closed: Web Link
>> "Republicans drafting their party's official policy platform on Tuesday ratified a call for a Constitutional ban on abortion that makes no exceptions for rape or incest." Web Link
VP candidate Paul Ryan is on board with taking all rights away from women. Paul Ryan co-sponsored the Sanctity of Life Act WITH TODD AKIN and co-sponsored or voted for by virtually all of the GOP, which defines a fertilized egg as a person and grants it "all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of Personhood." No exceptions. Web Link Ryan also co-sponsored a national forced ultrasound bill.
No exceptions if your daughter's life may be at risk. No exceptions if your granddaughter is raped -- your granddaughter must carry her rapist's baby. Paul Ryan also co-sponsored the "forcible rape" redefinition in HR3 Web Link Does Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney not understand that "rape is rape"?
Mitt Romney's position on Personhood, which takes all choice away from women, takes away most forms of The Pill, takes away in-vitrio fertilization, a procedure Mitt's own boys used?
>> "HUCKABEE: Would you have supported a constitutional amendment that would have established the definition of life at conception?

If men could get pregnant, abortion would be federally funded and abortion clinics would be adjacent to sport bars.
Condi Rice, the worst, most disastrous and most incompetent national security advisor(and secretary of state) in US history gave an interview to a major a few weeks ago in which she attacked the President for not believing in US exceptionalism, so much for Condi staying out of public affairs. She couldn't be bothered though to criticize Akin's horrendous comments.

I find it odd that people are cheering that Augusta has admitted a certain few select women. Augusta is finally being dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century, let alone the 21st and people think this is a great leap forward? [Portion removed by Palo Alto Online staff.] Condi should have turned this down and told them to ask her again when they have admitted 100 other women and then maybe she might consider it.
