What is the Palo Alto Club on Melville?

Original post made by im curious, Downtown North, on Jul 26, 2012

I live not too far away, and I often bike or walk by this place, a huge beautiful house, at Melville and Webster. It's called the Palo Alto Club, has no web presence, so naturally I'm curious. Anyone know?

Web Link

From the above link: 567 Melville Avenue Palo Alto Club,
Darsie Residence, Ernest Coxhead, architect; L.S. Bean, builder

This link Web Link says that it's a private club & mentions soccer.

I've been curious about it for a long time. I have memories of being in a large house for some type of organized kids' event as a kid. In later years, when I'd cycle by it, I connected that house to those memories, but could be mistaken that the event happened there.

Maybe it's a private club where important types meet up w/local spooks or the gov't & corporate variety? At least, that's what I envision. There's a phone #, btw.

It's a private men's club. My dad joined a while back. I thought they had a website but it too might be private. The interior is very nice. It has that old Palo Alto feel to it.

I have heard of this club before. Hopefully I can find it. My son wants to join it badly.
