Why do papers think that anybody cares about what these fringe groups think? What a waste of time .. on everyone's part.
I happen to care, and think they have a good point at that.
What is the news?
Is it that Blair will be in Stanford? Will there be traffic problems and road closures?
Or are some protesters protesting again and going to disrupt our lives?
"Schott, an anthropology major, said he and his fellow protesters blame Blair and the Bush administration for the Iraq War, which he called illegal."
The Liberation of Iraq was neither illegal nor immoral. Tony Blair should be honored for his support to overthrow Saddam.
Leftist groups at Stanford should be shamed into acknowleging their socialist support of mass murder, including Saddam. They like to occupy almost anything, except their own culpibility.
Tony Blair and George W Bush will win the judgement of history, unless Barack Obama blows it.
And Gary knows because he used to be a leftist.
Do these people have the the right to peacfully protest Blair's visit? Yes, they do.
If right-wingers, like Gary, oppose this, then they oppose free speech and are no better than the dictators they rant against.
"And Gary knows because he used to be a leftist.
Do these people have the the right to peacfully protest Blair's visit? Yes, they do."
Yes to both points.
I would hope that they grow a brain, and begin to understand how culpable they are for mass socialist murder. At that point, the shame will settle into their minds, and they will, finally, understand how wrong they are/were. I have travelled that path, and it was not pleasant, but it was liberating.
I, actually, feel sad for the lefties at Stanford and their supporters. They are forced to accept nonsense, like 'revolutionary violence and economic justice'. This leads to mass murder.
Tony Blair will probably live to see his cause justified by the trail of history. The 'occupy' movement will be no more than a trivial footnote.
Gary must love the support to overthrow dictators in Egypt, Libya and Syria.
As well as the murderous rightwing dictators in in pre-Castro Cuba, the Sandinistas who overthrew Anastasio Somoza Debayle in Nicaragua, etc..
A murdering dictator has to go, according to former leftist Gary.
About Blair and his conflicting Iraq testimony... "They included a note from Goldsmith to Blair, marked secret and dated 30 January 2003, stating: "In view of your meeting with President Bush on Friday, I thought you might wish to know where I stand on the question of whether a further decision of the [UN] security council is legally required in order to authorise the use of force against Iraq.''
Goldsmith warned Blair that "the correct legal interpretation of resolution 1441 [the last security council decision on Iraq] is that it does not authorise the use of force without a further determination by the security council".
Goldsmith concluded: "My view remains that a further [UN] decision is required.""
"I would hope that they grow a brain, and begin to understand how culpable they are for mass socialist murder. "
Blah, blah, blah, blah. Same old same old from Gary. Insults and reproach for those that do not agree with him. These people have brains and they have free choice. What part of that do you not understand, Gary. I would hope that you would develop some common sense in your brain.
"I, actually, feel sad for the lefties at Stanford and their supporters. They are forced to accept nonsense, like 'revolutionary violence and economic justice'. This leads to mass murder."
Of course in Gary's world anything that deviates from his dogma leads to mass murder--sound familiar--it is from the playbook of right-wingers and dictators. Same old same old from Gary. Nothing new. Same broken record from our former leftist.
"A murdering dictator has to go, according to former leftist Gary."
In terms of scale, murdering dictators do need to go. Of course, the worst mass murderers are socialists. And they should go, approximately in that order, e.g.:
Way down the list comes the 'right wingers' like Somoza. Yes, the right winger capitalists do murder to protect their won interests, but it can hardly compare to the mass murder/genocide that the state socialists commit. Not even close. Leftists need to analyze their own radical beliefs, which are irrational, non-scientific and anti-intellectual. At a certain point, they will realize that they supported mass murder. Beyond that point, they will give up the ghost of socialist doctrine, and start to grow a brain, possbily even an emotional soul.
" start to grow a brain"
More of the same from Gary. If you do not agree with the former leftist, Gary, then you need "to grow a brain".. [Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language] Everyone knows that you do not grow a brain.
unfortunately, what Gary is preaching is the same thing that these dictators he rants about believe--blind obedience to a flawed doctrine. Welcome to Gary's twisted world.

"More of the same from Gary. If you do not agree with the former leftist, Gary, then you need "to grow a brain".."
A figure of speech, of course. Perhaps I should have said, "make more neuronal connections" ...based on a rational expierence of the real world.
" Perhaps I should have said, "make more neuronal connections" "
[Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language] . Instead of saying something like--think about the matter and form an opinion, Gary (the former leftist) chooses to insult and denigrate those that do not adhere to his right-wing doctrine by saying they need to "grow a brain".

I totally support student protesting, espec at the Robber Baron University that I have deep ties with. It doesn't matter whether or not I agree w/the protest. What matters is that they're exercising their rights to do so, that they're expressing their values in a lawful manner & that they're passionate about something that they're thought through. I'd rather hear about Stanford protests than the usual complacent, money-grubbing efforts that are rife in this area - & at Stanford.
Blair is a very decent and very competent man and politician.
These trouble making protesters should be aware that they will all be videoed and put in a data bank and identified.
Automated Facial Recognition Software will be used to mine data on other locations tha they show up in.
Their cyber activity could be monitored
That is the reality of Homeland Security these days and it is will b getting even tighter.
They may have great difficulty getting certain jobs and will probably never get security clearances above the very basic-if that
They may get to an airport and find that they will be put through extra search and even placed on No Fly Lists.
These are the unfortunate- and mainly unintended- consequences of living under the Patriot Act.
Once you are on the list it is
1/ very difficult to find out that you are on the lists
2/ very expensive and virtually impossible to get off the lists
Students should be made aware by their teachers and parents that while they have freedom of speech and assembly they have no control of what is done with data filed on them by National Security Agencies
It is what it is
" & that they're passionate about something that they're thought through (sic)"
Not much thinking going on. Leftist passion leads to mass murder.
Tony Blair and GWB are liberators! They both deserve great honors. Like Churchill and FDR and Reagan.
Gary - you have no real idea how much thinking goes on w/the protestors. Just because you disagree w/their stance doesn't mean they haven't thought about the issues; it merely means that they've arrived at different conclusions than you have & that they're taking action to express their position. It's an action that they're taking legally at their school. It won't likely make a difference, but it's a big part of growing up for people.
Any passion taken too far can lead to murder. Inaction also can lead to murder. You don't even know factually if these people are leftists - it's just your own rhetoric at work.
If you feel so strongly about what these students are doing on their school property, what are you going to do about it? Clearly, rightist passion leads to a lot of online posting!
"Gary - you have no real idea how much thinking goes on w/the protestors"
Yes, I do! I was one of them, back in my demented lefty days. I FULLY understand where they are coming from. This is why I take them on, in the intellectual sphere. They have no intellectual argument, just socialist propaganda and mass murder.
"Gary - you have no real idea how much thinking goes on w/the protestors. Just because you disagree w/their stance"
Gary doesn't agree with anyone to this side of Attila the Hun. And would shred the Constitution and our rights of assembly and free speech, but keep his right to name-call and insult.
Hitler as a socialist? In what world? He was in bed with the German industrialists, against marxists and communists.
from Wiki - National Socialism was the ideology practiced by the Nazi Party and Nazi Germany. It is a unique variety of fascism that incorporates biological racism and antisemitism. Nazism was founded out of elements of the far-right racist völkisch German nationalist movement and the violent anti-communist Freikorps paramilitary culture that fought against the uprisings of communist revolutionaries in post-World War I Germany. The ideology was developed first by Anton Drexler and then Adolf Hitler as a means to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially Nazi political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, though such aspects were later downplayed in the 1930s to gain the support from industrial owners for the Nazis; the focus shifting to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes...
Sharon-is this the same facial recognition software that you claimed was going to be used to see who flattened the tires of Rev. Phelps' stooges at Stanford a few years ago? As long as they protest peacefully,I see no problem.do you, Sharon?
I also assume that the tea party protestors will also be at risk for the same problems that Sharon is going on and on about
I guess telling people to grow a brain is considered a ” respectful” comment by the weekly. What a ” newspaper”!
-Tony Blairs main effort these days is to end the Israeli apartheid regime in I/P
It is an outrage that few have the courage to confront-
Tony Blair has the the courage to confront Israeli apartheid policies.
Good for Blair
That is what the Stanford students should focus upon
-Apartheid in I/P
Here we go, Sharon injecting her anti-Israel bias into the discussion.
"Gary doesn't agree with anyone to this side of Attila the Hun. And would shred the Constitution and our rights of assembly and free speech, but keep his right to name-call and insult."
Not at all. Atilla was mild, in comparasion to the socialist mass murderers, like Lenin and Stalin, and their supporters and followers. However, I do not support his predations. He came before the notion of the nation state and socialist ideology. The issue, in our time, is one of free enterpise vs.state command economies. State command leads to mass murder; free enterpise does not.
Tony Blair used his state military power to support the defeat of a Stalinist monster (Saddam). Blair deserve many honors, along with GWB.
Tony Blair and W made the best decision on the best available information at the time to protect Western Civilization.
Tony Blair is now publicly committed to ending the current Israeli regimes Apartheid policy and ending Israels colonial campaign
-W and American conservatives support this.
Because Israels current policy endangers American interests and American troops lives in the region--according to the DIA, the CIA and the NSC.
Enough is enough
We also support the end of nuclear weapons in the Mid East-that includes Israel
Here we go some more. More is sharons anti-Israel bias on a thread that had nothing to do with Israel. Plus she injects her usual factoids-this time that bush and conservatives believe that Israel is an apartheid nation. Why don't you provide some proof tree your comments about the DIA,, CIA and NSC.. Do not expect a response. Sharon will continue on her merry way-facts be damned.
Finals are coming up. What are their priorities? If these Stanford students have time to "protest" fine leaders like Tony Blair, then I just don't know...how serious they are about their studies. Doesn't make sense. Appears "cool," though, to some.
Protesting a speech by someone coming to campus, a speech that has nothing to do with war, by someone who is long past any point to be able to do anything about any war, who was invited by a private group to a private function...wow...leftists are so odd! For free speech except when it is by someone they don't like! Very inconsistent people.
"Protesting a speech by someone coming to campus, a speech that has nothing to do with war, by someone who is long past any point to be able to do anything about any war, who was invited by a private group to a private function...wow...leftists are so odd! "
So, agree with Gary, you are saying that people do not have the right to peacefully protest a speech?? Seems odd coming from someone who claims to be a patriot. Sounds more like you are like those dictators that you claim to despise--are you sure you are really an american and not some right-wing dictator???? right-wingers are so odd
> leftists are so odd! For free speech except when it is by
> someone they don't like! Very inconsistent people.
"Leftists" are not inconsistent people at all. They are controlling people. They use free speech to advance their agenda (or beliefs), and deny free speech to those whose agendas (or beliefs) that oppose, fear, or loathe. Free speech is just a tool, which they use quite effectively to gain control of other people's lives.
Look to those countries that are run by "the left"--to see just how much they believe in free speech, once they are in control. Free speech is one of the first things to go.
"to see just how much they believe in free speech, once they are in control. Free speech is one of the first things to go."
Except you decry the Constitutionally protected free speech rights of Americans to peacefully protest.
