Old Movie Blog - want to help out? Movies, posted by Laura, a resident of Menlo Park, on Sep 27, 2010 at 1:56 pm
I've started an old movie blog, with the goal of getting more people (ie current parenting generation and their kids!) into the Stanford Theatre - once you start to become familiar with old movies, you're hooked. Would anyone like to work on this blog project with me? It's not a money-maker (not yet!) but I'd love to approach the Stanford Theatre or the Stanford Theatre Foundation to see if they'll host the blog on their website.

I was just at the Stanford theater last Sunday to see "Anna Karenina" and "We Live Again". Wow is all I can say. Very interesting movie. I love the movies at the Stanford, and it's funny and ironic that there have been few mainstream movies that I have wanted to go see lately ... 3D or no. Most of the old movies are not mindnumbingly stupid or offensive. Great idea.
However, what more would you want in terms of a blog than IMDB movie discussions, or do you seek to create something like that that is local to the Stanford theater only? Curious?

Hi "Anon in Crescent Park" -
1) I'd love to continue this conversation directly on my blog (easier, plus I'm trying to generate readership around JUST the very topics you bring up).
2) There are already tons of old movie sites/blogs online, with opinions from novice to expert, so I don't want to reinvent the wheel. So you are right - I seek to create something that is local to Stanford Theatre, PLUS something that appeals to younger people (ie 30s, 40s...) who don't usually see old films or who don't take their kids to the genre.
3) Actaully, the latter is what I'm most compelled by. I'm in my 40s and none of my peers know much about old movies, and I think it's a missed opportunity for their kids (read my post from this past Sunday, on value of knowing past cultural history).
4) Would you mind posting your first paragraph of your comment directly on the blog? it's great...and just the kind of thing I'm looking for. I didn't know that particular film, just had read about it (on IMDB and elsewhere) and didn't get a good impression of it, now I wish I had seen it!!
