Sad. This is happening everyday throughout the US. Over 800,000 illegal guns come into the US every year. We can't stop the drugs from coming in- I guess it would be hard to stop the guns too. Do we start arming everyone? Shut down our borders? Hold parents responsible? How do we turn this around?

This is so awful--a terrible loss.

More guns...more senseless death. We need gun control!

We need an economy and education system that provides hope to young people. We need family and societal support that makes them feel connected and teaches them civic duty and connection instead of popular culture that aggrandizes violent behavior.

Instead, so many feel hopeless. They lash out in anger...and, sadly, the availability of guns makes their anger lethal.

To the families of these young people...I am so very sorry for your loss.

When shall the hoods stop shooting one another? When the law of this State starts to have proper gun control! It would appear to be a sad reflection on society that people are out there shooting at innocent passers-by and our State Senators are taking little or no affirmative action to try and alleviate the situation. Let us hope that the murdering hood that carried out this latest killing is caught and dealt with accordingly.

More gun control will not help when they are using burners!

The only people I feel sorry for are the family and friends of innocent bystanders.

They are ways to slow criminal minds to use or posses in a gun illegally. All people that carry a gun they don't own and who posses a gun and cannot own a gun have to get long sentences , now if we really look at it is more likely that that person have it for the wrong idea. This affects legal gun owners. Stronger laws won't do much, longer sentences should. Better thing it be a way to save a few more lives.

why does richard assume closing the borders would have an effect on crime in east palo alto or elsewhere? the immigrants who coming here now are running away from crime, in many cases hoping to be reunited with family. they are not looking to join gangs, use guns, and recreate the crime-ridden situations they are escaping.

Gun control only controls the law abiding citizens. Criminals will always get guns. ALWAYS.

On the face of it, one suspects this is related to gangs. I sincerely hope the EPA police force has sufficient manpower and funds to work on controlling the gang situation in their town. I have read about other cities, Los Angeles comes to mind, that have had some success with officers dedicated to getting these young people out of gangs. I believe they've even had funds to pay for tattoo removal of the kids who were on the wrong path and had decided to make something of their lives.

This is just so terribly sad to read of a young man dead at 18 years of age.

No solution to gun violence is absolutely effective.

Just because gun control is not 100% effective is not a reason to discard it.

Gun control would save lives.

How is gun control going to crub the violence? So we make it harder for a law binding person to own a gun. Richard states that 800,000 illegal come into the US each year. I bet that number is way too low. The police chief in Detroit stated " we should put a gun in every law abiding citizens hand". Maybe he is right. Nothing else is working.

No one wants to turn in the shooter (and SOMEONE saw it). But we have huge outcries when a cop shoots someone. That's how some of this madness can start subsiding, when people want EVERY shooter to be held accountable and pay the price - not by "we gotta go get 'em", but by telling the police who did it - and understanding that it is not snitching when you are trying to save your neighborhood.

I believe Mexico has asked the US to try to stop the flow of guns into Mexico, not out of Mexico. Why would anyone risk getting caught transporting a gun into the US, they are so readily available here. Closing the borders might keep some of the shooters out, and some other undesirables, but it will not affect guns flowing in this direction because they tent to flow the other way.
