Should the USA get involved in Nigeria, because girls got kidnapped?

Original post made by Craig Laughton, College Terrace, on May 8, 2014

300 girls kidnapped by Islamists in Nigeria. Now we have women in Congress demanding that the USA use all means to get them back. There have been many thousands of boys kidnapped and slaughtered, but there was next to nothing from these American Congresswomen. Why?

Are you sure only women in congress are calling for action on this matter? What is really your point, Craig? Shouldn't you be asking why the white, republican males in congress are not demanding action for all children that are kidnapped. But wouldn't helping these children be like giving them a welfare benefit? I think each neighborhood should have a secret ballot and then we can tell congress how we feel based on those results.

My point is that the women in Congress are strangely quiet when the boys are getting kidnapped and slaughtered. Why is that? Sexism? I just don't get it. I do understand that women are nurturing about children, yet they seem to want young men to go save the girls, but not the boys.

Can they explain that? Can you?

Craig-- the subject of your thread is asking if the USA should get involved in this issue. But your comments are directed against women and question their motives in wanting action. Why don't you stick to the topic you posted.
Can you explain why your fellow white male republican members of congress have not said anything period????? Why are you trying to stir the pot with bogus claims of sexism? BTW, where are hundreds of boys being kidnapped and slaughtered?
Why are you against a secret ballot in each neighborhood to decide this matter?

Actually, teen boys and younger DO get kidnapped and sometimes their parents are purposely murdered, in order to turn them I to child soldiers. The boys have almost always been brainwashed. There is a young African man who wrote a book about being a child soldier himself. He was apparently told that his parents hated him and wished him dead, and then he was instructed to make his first "kill" his own family.

And it is true that no one has done anything about this. There seems to be a reverse sexism these days, with boys and young men on the losing end.

That said, I suspect that what is shocking people about the kidnapped Nigerian girls is that they are being SOLD into prostitution by a group of extremists who think it is sinful to educate girls or to believe in modern progress, such as vaccinations. Some have died of mysterious causes ( murder?).

I think it is sickening that people can turn their backs on boys in general, because it is somehow more fashionable to come to the rescue of girls. Especially since young people and children of both sexes need help in various places the world over, including right here at home.

You make some good points, reality. It would be more helpful if Craig would organize some action to help young people all over the world, instead of trying to,stir the pot with claims of sexism. Sounds like the typical games that some people like to,play with the lives of others

Not quite. My question is why this is a big issue, because girls were kidnapped? If they were boys, as there have been many of thousands, would the Congresswomen be outspoken? Would you?

How many Americans want us to get involved in Nigeria? How many women want their daughters to be front line troops? There are plenty of men who want to protect the innocents, but where are the women? It seems, of recent, that they only show up when the girls/women are the victims (e.g. Taliban in Afghanistan), until the men get into the battle, then they claim that war is bad.

Can't have it both ways.

When our local Congresswomen get on the rescue/war bandwagon, watch out...they won't support the effort, when the body bags come marching home.

Craig-- why don't you stop playing your typical games when it involves such an issue? Reality makes an important point about why what happens to these girls after kidnapping is what makes it so shocking. But typical that you and your fellow white republicans in congress choose to ignore the issue and instead choose to denigrate those that stand up for these unfortunate girls.

Girls get sold into prostitution, a very bad thing, but you ignore the boys that are tortured and slaughtered and the survivors forced into goon squads of murdering militias...very shocking.

When will our Congresswomen demand that all actions be used to protect BOTH boys and girls...not just girls? If they want action in Nigeria (and other places), then they need to be part of the take off...and the landing. I don't trust that they will be. Do you?

Really, Craig? You have decided to use these events to bash women in congress who call for action? Do you enjoy playing these petty games? Do you derive some kind of,pleasure from stirring the pot on an important issue in order to push buttons?
Does it not bother you that your fellow white republican men in congress have not said a word about any of this? Or do you just choose to ignore that point because it does not fit your little game? Does your wife know about your sexist and derogatory posts about women?
BTW, you have yet to provide any evidence for your claims of hundreds of boys being kidnapped, tortured and murdered?
Instead of wasting your time denigrating those that are trying to make changes, why don't you demand that congress in general take action to,protect boys and girls-- or is that nit part of your game?
Why don't you become part of the solution instead of playing petty, self serving games while others suffer.
