Merrill Newman continued

Original post made by More information, Midtown, on Dec 4, 2013

Not sure why the weekly is not reporting any longer on the Palo Alto resident who is being held captive in North Korea, but the chronicle and mercury news have stories today that may explain his captivity:

I truly think that this poor man has been confused ( by N Korea) with another Merrill Newman who has a different middle initial. This other Merrill Newman was an officer, while the one in captivity was just a foot-soldier.

There's no confusion in North Korea's actions. Anytime that they can stir it up and then hope to gain some sort of concession from the USA is their game plan. Correct identity or not.

The general economic and physical health of that country is desperate and they are feeling the pain of the multiple international sanctions. They have found that the USA has become far-less inclined to send them food, etc. to make a deal. So what you are seeing now is just another last ditch effort. Even China has been (relatively speaking) critical of N. Korea lately.

It may take them longer, but eventually they will learn the long-term effects of the sanctions are not worth the resistance towards the international demands for dropping their nuclear weapons program.

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund

For the last 23 years, the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund has given away more than $4 million to local nonprofits serving children and families. When you make a donation, every dollar is automatically doubled, and 100% of the funds go directly to local programs. It’s a great way to ensure your charitable donations are working at home.
