No idea who was at fault in this particular case, BUT daily am irritated by skateboards weaving in and out of bike lane / car lane, not stopping at stop signs or looking before crossing the street, etc. I'm not clear what rules apply to them but many are quite wreckless. Am not in the least bit shocked one got hit. It was bound to happen. The evil car driver will be blamed for not paying attention. There are for sure too many distracted drivers but there are an awful lot of distracted cyclists, pedestrians and skate boarders.

I have been knocked over by a skateboarder before, and suffered a broken ankle from it. The skater dude did not even stop after re-mounting his board!

My granddaughter, a toddler, was recently knocked down on the sidewalk at Peers Park by a skateboarder, and suffered a bloody nose and split lip.

Skateboarders, grow up and stay off the sidewalk.

Skateboarders are considered pedestrians in the vehicle code. In Palo Alto they are allowed to use sidewalks except in business districts and they are prohibited from using the road on some streets. Of course there is no excuse for behaving rudely or dangerously. It would help if everybody understood what is permitted and what is not, but the Palo Alto rules don't apply at Stanford where this crash occurred. I don't know the Stanford rules.
