Locals celebrate Earth Day at Palo Alto Baylands

Original post made on Apr 20, 2013

Nine-year-old Alex Carvalho summed up Earth Day while at the Baylands Nature Preserve's Earth Day celebration: "You have to be extra nice to the Earth," Carvalho said. "You should be nice to the Earth every day, but extra nice on Earth Day."

The bike path under Hwy 101 in southern Palo Alto is open again. It was closed for 2 years and I thought the city just forgot about it. So glad that we can bike out to the baylands with the kids again. I'm sure my neighbor is glad to be able to bike on this trail to work instead of using San Antonio Road.

I am glad the Baylands are noted.
The Palo Alto Baylands are a great, fun resource for open space, easy-access exercise, relaxation in nature (I am not a gym type of person and live near the Baylands, so I can go there often).
I am wondering if there might be a Palo Alto company, foundation, or prominent individual who might be in the position to offer funds to renovate/upgrade the prominent Baylands Center and boardwalk out onto the bay? This would be greatly appreciated, look better, and get a lot of use. Some of the boards on the walkway of the boardwalk have been twisted/come loose/come up (and have been repaired on a spot basis)and the structure and boardwalk are completely weathered past the point of ok weathering - it seems like the right time for it all to be cleaned/repaired/improved/renovated.
The ranger station and renovated sea scout building are fine, but the main Baylands Center should be brought up to 2013 also.
Thanks to those companies, individuals, foundations that may give consideration to stepping up to take care of this for the city of Palo Alto and area residents and workers.

Does anyone know what's going on with the dump at Byxbee Park? About two or three weeks ago, they kinda sealed off the extension they made to the park and they seem to be working with the soil all over again. There's almost LESS available land to walk on than there was 2 years ago, or whenever they opened up that acreage.
