Use it or lose it

Original post made by @home on Aug 26, 2012

In every company that I have worked, you cannot accumulate more than two years of unused off days: use it or lose it. But obviously that is not the case for our government (city, county and state) workers as they can accumulate unlimited years of unused overtime or off days. They can cash in all when they retire or quit at their last hourly rate! One retiree (according to SJ Merc) cashed in $354301 when he departed his city government. This is actually in addition to their lifelong retirement salary benefits.

Every time I read this kind of news, I feel rather foolish to vote yes for the upcoming state tax propositions. As much as I want to help the schools, I am completely disgusted by the perks of public workers and government HR policies.
