The driver of an out-of-control car that crashed into two homes in East Palo Alto Thursday, July 26, narrowly missing a baby that was sleeping in a bassinet, has come to the police, East Palo Alto police said.
The 20-year-old man came to the police department to be interviewed by an investigator. The man admitted he was driving and said he fled from the scene because he was scared. The case will be forwarded to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. The driver’s name has not been released.
Officers arrived to the 2100 block of Cooley Avenue near Bell Street at about 5:15 a.m. to find a car without its occupants smashed about 1.5 feet into a converted garage where a mother and her two children were sleeping. Two to four people are thought to have fled the collision, police Sgt. David Carson said.
The vehicle struck the corner of one house and took out a retaining wall, careened off the garage and damaged a window on the home, then smashed through another retaining wall before slamming into the garage of the home next door where the family was sleeping, he said. No one was injured.
Officers searched the area but did not find the car’s occupants. An investigation is ongoing, but Carson said the car was not stolen.
“The man admitted he was driving and fled from the scene because he was scared.” Yeah, scared and drunk.
Scared? Try having a car drive through your house while you’re sleeping. Throw the book at him!
If they had a test that showed alcohol levels from 5 days back, this guy would have come fwd on day 6 or 7.
I know him. He is my friend’s babies dad. His name is Javier Torres . He’s a woman beater and I hope he rots in jail. He claimed his “son” a a dependent on taxes although he had not seen him in over a year. He’s garbage.
