There have been fireworks on my block, Euclid ave/west of 101 for about a week now. Not a Police Officer in sight.

Raymond - you have to call, sometimes more than once. We laughed as we read this article, because frankly, there are so many illegal fireworks that have been exploding for WEEKS and suddenly the police brass care? The violence here has upticked, kids are out of school and a major holiday is approaching, so cops are stretched thin.

We keep our hoses handy and plan on coming back before dark tomorrow. Sigh.

Good luck with that, EPA Police!!
Like everyone standing around the area of the shotspotter is going to be arrested or cited for fireworks when not one person is going to say who did it!?!! Right!
I have been hearing fireworks already this week around our area, too.
And what's this I heard on the news this morning about the PA fire departments being closed on the 4th? Really - I hope I heard it wrong, because that is the stupidest thing I ever heard.
Besides all that - I think fireworks should be allowed and anyone misusing them, causing fire or injury should have to deal with consequences. I miss the fun we used to have in front of our houses.

"I think fireworks should be allowed and anyone misusing them, causing fire or injury should have to deal with consequences." Agree.

Libertarian responsibility!

Let Freedom ring!

There's no crackdown here! My neighbor was shooting the huge ones that explode in the sky for hours. And you hear them all over town well into the night. Anyone that has pets is well aware of the constant booms. It horrible for pets ... and pet owners.

What is of greater concern to me is the gun shots . . . people shooting guns into the air, and not knowing or caring where those bullets land.

people who are complaining about the fireworks just stop why does there need to be so much control over how much fun you can have? you people act like you were never kids like you never liked fireworks..worry about the real terrible things like drugs, shootings things of that nature.

It doesn't have to do with kids having fun, yes we were all young once. The fireworks that we now talking about are the illegal ones that shake everything
From eardrums, to cars, to windows on the home. These are the
Most annoying late into the night/early morning. And really what do you get out off
Setting these off in the middle off the
Night, except for annoying your neighbors and having them dislike you. They say it's for the kids....yeah right, its for the adults. Kids want the safe and same
Ones that were once
Legal. Let's crackdown EPA police...

North Fair Oaks is hell on the 4th - the worst of all . Dogs REALLY suffer the most.
Wish there was a place - like Moffett Field -- where they can go and leave the rest of us in peach.

The "crackdown" plan surprises me. In particular the time frame. First of all, in my block we've been hearing these booms for weeks already.

As I type this, I hear them cracking and booming outside just down the street or on the next block. Second, the article states the police department will crackdown through July 6th. Naturally the bulk of the activity will fall on the 4th and even the 5th but trust when I say that based on past experience, the booms will sound for weeks after the holiday just as they have been for weeks leading up to the holiday. It's a nice thought this plan. I believe it is a lofty plan. I rather EPA Police focus on the "celebratory" gun firing.

I agree those late night loud ones are the worst!!! Before the Fireworks Ban I can remember one year the air was so thick it was hard to breathe and the eyes hurt if you went outside.
Children learn from adults that this is something fun to watch. That in it's self is not a bad thing. But allowing them to play with it is taking a real chance of them getting injured. The best option for everyone would be is to let the experts do the shows... for those who enjoy fireworks and who can tolerate smoke and noise.

I am not sure whether the police is taking any action on it. Things are getting worse; I really do not feel safe at all.
