Starting Nov. 29, construction will begin on San Antonio Road from Middlefield Road to the U.S. Highway 101 interchange, potentially causing some traffic slowdowns, city officials said.
The project includes installing new landscaping, irrigation, medians, curbs and gutters, repair of uplifted sidewalks and driveways, and street repaving.
Existing pine trees, which have damaged the roadway and sidewalks, will first be removed. The tree removal has been the subject of numerous community meetings and public outreach, city engineers said.
Drivers should expect some delays during the construction hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately one year. To avoid delays, drivers should utilize alternate routes if possible, Public Works Engineering staff said.

If they installed new bike lanes on San Antonio Road during this project, then we wouldn’t need a new separate bicycle bridge over Hwy 101.
I made the mistake of going up San Antonio this AM – ALREADY there was a traffic snarl with tension over merging cars from two lanes into one lane. I hope they can accelerate this work.
The work is expected to take about a year. If I had to use San Antonio on a regular basis, I’d find another way.
Anyway, when it’s finished I hope all those tree roots are gone and we can actually drive on the edge of the street.
