A 16-year-old Mountain View resident was stabbed Monday evening in a possibly gang-related fight on the 100 block of N. Rengstorff Avenue, police said.

The victim, who has not been named, was stabbed just before 6 p.m. Monday, according to police spokesperson Liz Wylie. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, and his wound does not appear to be life-threatening, she said.

“It appears at this point to be possibly gang related,” Wylie said. “We’re looking into that as our motive.”

According to Wylie, the victim was walking home when “he crossed the street to the other side of North Rengstorff. He was approached by two male suspects who exchanged some words with him, and then one of them stabbed him in the back one time.”

The two suspects were described as Hispanic males between the ages of 18 and 25. They were last seen on foot on S. Rengstorff Avenue wearing dark clothing. The suspects are still at large, Wylie said.

Anyone with information can call the Mountain View Police Department anonymously at 650-903-6344.

  1. It would really be nice if some of these stories would be researched to find out the whole story and then published so we can understand what is happening with the ugly senseless violence and crime that we are seeing with more frequency.

I can understand how media want to avoid a pile on about minorities or undocumented aliens or anything racial .. but if there is in fact some sort of racial or class element to these problems, we need to not deny it, and to discuss it with as much information as possible.
