To Be or Not To Be Anonymous

Original post made by Richard Placone, Barron Park, on Jul 13, 2007

There has been some discussion on this Website about postings that are signed "Anonymous" or with ficticious names or only a first name. By way of full disclousure, the few times I have posted comments on various issues I always use my fullname, as will appear at the end of this posting.

Richard,

The problem is that none of us will know who is real or not. For instance, I just looked up your name on the white pages (very easy to do). Yes, I got a name and address and phone number, but I don't really know it is you.

There is NO WAY to assure that someone tells the truth about who they are. The real bad news is that someone can claim to be whom they are not. Think about that, Richard.

It is best to aruge ideas, not identities.

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund

For the last 23 years, the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund has given away more than $4 million to local nonprofits serving children and families. When you make a donation, every dollar is automatically doubled, and 100% of the funds go directly to local programs. It’s a great way to ensure your charitable donations are working at home.
