These tips are very helpful... I have a friend suffering from chronic depression and there is often the feeling that she COULD do something about her condition and chooses not to. This article helps me see that depression is a truly debilitating disease and my friend can't just "snap out of it." It also doesn't mean that I can't continue to be supportive even if my friend isn't immediately responsive... seeds are being planted.
