Did Embarcadero Road needed paving 3 years ago?

Three years ago I was of the impression that Embarcadero Road needed repaving. I have only seen patchwork done on it all the time.
Traveling on Embarcadero Road is woefully bumpy.
What gives?
I suggest we donate a begging bowl to City of Palo Alto so they can get the 3 million dollars that they need for basic infrastructure repairs.
Actually most of the budget is drained by the "Massive Employment" and benefits that the city provides. What a world. I am being told that the City of Palo Alto is eager to tell folks around the world that it is doing a GREAT job. I suggest that more people in the world should know that we are here trying to buy a begging bowl.

I have not seen any resurfacing done on Embarcadero between El Camino and Middlefield in forty years!! Patching yes, resurfaciing no. And if you think that is bad, try driving the length of Seale, Hamilton, Forest, and dreadful Waverley. Guinda between University and Homer is a disaster - and now Guinda is all torn up to lay pipes. Guida is scheduled for resurfacing --are your ready for this.... 2011. Take another street and protect the auto alignment and balancing.

It is too bad that Gary Fazzino's pleas when he was on Council to undergroud the unsightly
telephone poles went where many good suggestions go. The wastebasket. Embarcadero is one of the city's
major pipelines, and it is a disgrace with unkempt yards,, falling down fences, and student rentals that are "Animal House" personified. One resident puts out old furniture for anyone to pick up, and some people whose homes face Kingsley leave recycle and garbage cans out all week. Another resident in 'outer Embarcadero' has a garage sale almost weekly.

There is no question that Embarcadero is very hard on our cars. It would be really nice if this could be fixed and resurfaced. Certain others streets are in really bad shape, I guess we are used to it and just accept this and go on day after day-

Embarcadero Road is a disgrace. I drive it every day taking my child to Paly and I feel as though I've been transported to a third-world country.

However, if Embarcadero were repaved, I'm sure that the Public Works department would find some reason to immediately tear it back up as they do for every other newly repaved road. I vote that we delegate governance of Palo Alto to Sunnyvale, which appears to know how to provide superior services while using far less money.

Our previous street Guru was so busy blocking and speedbumping that he had no time left for paving repairs. He actually seemed to resent drivers using his streets.

What benefits???

Just less than a year ago many employees were finally recognized by the city as "full-time." Some of these loyal city workers have worked for seven years straight and were still classified as "temporary." Seven years and no sick leave? no vacation? These were city workers that could be fired the very next day without a justifiable excuse. Some may recall an old brochure called "Palo Alto's Dirty Secret" that revealed the bare bones benefits of city workers. They quote a maintenance person "When my wife was dying of cancer, I couldn't get a day off." They quote a part-time city librarian about having to work two jobs and pay $1,000 a month for health care for her family.

Thank goodness workers actually get sick days now. It's also grateful knowing that there's some job security. Palo Alto needs to cut the bloated number of administrative positions. I also recall last year how the city council gave themselves a pay raise admist a budget deficit that year. Maybe that's where the road improvement budget went!

The laborer is worthy of hire. The executive, often, is not.

A laborer will dig a hole cover it up, dig a hole cover it up, dig a hole cover it up, dig a hole cover it up......

An executive will get a laborer to dig a hole, get another to put a foundation, another to put up a building, and viola you have a house with electricity and running water.....

Front End Alignment has it right - I used to live in Sunnyvale and their city services were very effective and we had nice, well-maintained streets. You don't really think about the streets until you get the shock of driving on or riding your bike on some of the Palo Alto streets.

I echo the comments about Sunnyvale has much better roads and better services overall. Please figure out a way to repave a small set of roads every year and publish the list, so we all know when our turn will come. The roads in Crecent Park -- Pitman, Forest, Dana, Hamilton -- are all in very bad shape
