The above letter from Mr. Lieberman has appeared in all the local newspapers. While it is high on anti-Stanford rhetoric, it is low on facts. Mr Lieberman is ignorant of the entire history of this trail issue and should read up on it before he makes statements that Stanford is "extending an upraised middle finger"!!!!!. I think other posters have discussed thhistory of the trails issue in recent threads on this forum.
Mr Lieberman is most confused about the main fact---the trail issue was between Stanford University and the County of Santa Clara, while the hospital issue is between the Stanford Medical Center and the city of Palo Alto.
Finally, IMHO it is quite selfish to put one's desires to traipse on private property above the health and well being of children and adults who receive treatment at the Stanford Medical Center.
It is comments like these by Palo Alto residents that lead me to state that Stanford needs to rethink free access to the dish area for Palo Alto residents

Privacy, bike racks, parks and "Comfort" stations? Get real.

Who is going to use that trail? There is no car parking and no bicycle parking and it is too far for most people to walk to. To add insult to injury, bicycles are banned from most of the trail.

I thought the city wanted to discourage the use of cars. How better to do it then not have car parking.

If you're not going to provide car parking, then at least provide safe bicycle parking. Or let bicyclists ride all the way through.
