Marie Dreyer
Feb. 1, 1919-Dec. 1, 2013
Atherton, California

Marie B. Dreyer of Atherton was born in Connecticut and raised in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Hillsdale College in Michigan, where she became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma, and she recently receiving her 75-year award from the sorority.

She graduated from Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Illinois, with honors in English literature.

Marie's professional life included a career as an award-winning salesperson for the Easterling Company. She was the first lady in the United States to receive the Star Salesman award, which she received at the amphitheater from the Sales and Marketing Executives Association in Chicago.

She met Leo Dreyer while working in the business. She moved with her young daughters Ann and Molly to California to be with Leo, where they had 3 more children: Michelle, Kevin, and Lisa.

Leo and Marie started their own business, Heritage House Tableware, in San Francisco in 1963 and raised their family in Atherton.

Marie was active in the PTA, serving as president at Laurel elementary and Encinal School. Marie was an excellent piano player, she loved music and singing, jazz being her favorite, and Leo and Marie were amazing on the dance floor.

She also loved to garden, cook, and enjoyed traveling to many wonderful places around the world: Jamaica, Egypt, Israel, Ireland, Italy, England, France and all over The United States.

They enjoyed many adventurous times with their family skiing in the Tahoe and Yosemite area, and beaching at their family beach house in Capitola. Marie also had a love of boating; she and Leo often traveled and lived aboard their Sea Ray boat for extended vacations in British Columbia and South East Alaska and Mexico. They were avid participants in the Bay Area Sea Ray Boat Club.

Marie was preceded in death by her sister Ann Curtain (Bill), and her son-in-law John Campiglia (Lisa). She is survived by her daughters Ann Goodenough (Ed), Molly Horn-Farley( Paul), Michelle Takemoto (Lee), Lisa Dreyer (John), Son, Kevin Dreyer (Allison), and 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

We give special thanks to her caregiver Ana; she is a devoted and caring friend who helped Marie through the last years of her life. Marie was a marvelous lady and Leo spared no sacrifice in his commitment to the love of his life, showing an incredible example of dedication to his wife of almost 55 years.

Services will be held on Monday Dec. 9th, at the Church of the Nativity, 210 Oak Grove Ave. in Menlo Park. Viewings and a Rosary will be at 12:30 p.m., with a funeral Mass celebrated at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1100 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park, with a reception at the family home in Atherton.
