'Spring forward': Time to check clocks, fire alarms
Daylight Saving time starts Sunday, March 10, and ends Nov. 3
|
Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday at 2 a.m., when time will "spring" forward an hour. We won't get that hour back until November, when we "fall" back.
As clock hands are adjusted, Bay Area public safety officials urge residents to also take the time to prepare for an emergency by changing the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon-monoxide detectors. The time change is also an opportunity to check on emergency supplies, they say.
The Monterey County Health Department advises residents to ensure their homes have a three-day supply of bottled water, non-perishable food and medication.
People with pets should make sure supplies are prepared for them as well.
As of 2007, Daylight Saving Time has begun at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March and has ended at the same time on the first Sunday of November, according to NASA officials.
In 2005, President George W. Bush signed into law extending Daylight Saving Time by four weeks, according to NASA.
This year Daylight Saving Time ends on Nov. 3.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
